Communication

Communication at IMS takes many forms, from communication between teachers and parents, between the Administration and parents and between the PTA and parents. This communication is sent out via e-mail, through the child's Communication Folder which is sent home on a daily basis or via telephone.  Don't hesistate to ask questions!

Over the course of the school year, parents are encouraged to partner with their classroom teachers in support of your child's development. Each teacher has his/her own e-mail address to facilitate regular communication, and parents are encouraged to use e-mail and phone to discuss matters with your teacher. We also welcome you to arrange a meeting with your classroom teacher to discuss your child.  There are also many opportunities to attend Montessori evenings, which offer insight into how and what your child is learning in the Montessori enviornment, which all parents are encouraged to attend.  We also suggest you to read the variety of wonderful books about Montessori and the child.

Classroom Observations

IMS encourages parents to come into the classroom before and after school, at the beginning of school (as described in our new student orientation section), during your child’s birthday, and for observations. Parents are also strongly encouraged to observe in the classroom to learn more about the Montessori Method, and how it works in the classroom. This can be arranged at your convenience on certain days. Please consult your classroom teacher to arrange an observation.

Conferences and Reports

IMS holds regularly scheduled conferences twice a year, in the autumn and in the spring. IMS teachers prepare written progress reports prior to these conferences. These reports cover all curriculum areas, and highlight how the child is progressing. This gives the parents an opportunity to meet with the teachers to discuss their child’s activities and progress with reference to the report.

All conferences are confidential conversations between the parents and staff.
