IMS Primary School Awarded Campus in Stanley
We are delighted to announce that IMS has been awarded a permanent school expansion site in Stanley!
The tender process for this campus was extremely competitive, and we are honoured that the government has chosen to support IMS by awarding our school community this highly sought after, lovely, campus. Through both its backing for IMS to remain at Tin Hau, and the awarding of the Stanley campus for further expansion, the government has demonstrated its belief in IMS and the benefits of the Montessori Primary Years curriculum for international primary students, as well as their strong commitment to diversity in international education in Hong Kong.
We are very grateful to the Hong Kong Government, and to our wonderfully supportive parent community, as well as to Hong Kong’s international community, including many multinational companies and over 20 Consulates and Chambers of Commerce, who advocated for IMS to be awarded an expansion site.
IMS is particularly thrilled to be able to expand our primary school network to the south side of Hong Kong island. We have a long waitlist of over 800 children, and historically have had to turn away three quarters of our applicants. The addition of over 700 new international school places through the Stanley campus will allow us to meet the demand for IMS’ high quality education, and continue our work of nurturing children to become happy, confident and successful bilingual learners.
Originally constructed in 2001, the Stanley campus is a beautiful site on the Stanley waterfront, adjacent to the Stanley Plaza shopping centre.
The school is a bright, spacious, well laid-out premises, with lovely green surroundings. The facilities include a large school hall, 30 classrooms as well as specialty rooms, two outdoor play areas, a basketball court, and two covered play areas and a garden.
The Stanley campus will complement IMS’ current campuses in Tin Hau, South Horizons and Mid Levels, creating a network of four strategically located campuses serving the key catchment areas where the majority of our community lives.
It is IMS’ plan to launch IMS Stanley in the 2013-14 academic year, and precise timing and other campus launch details will be confirmed the near future.

I wish I'd been to a school like this...
It is a delight to celebrate becoming the first Montessori Primary School to receive accreditation in Greater China! We are grateful to the efforts of the International Montessori Council, and to our unique school community, which has enabled this. As we look back on the past eleven years of working together to create this unique dual-language schooling opportunity in Hong Kong, we are so happy to see the reality which has unfolded around us. The families that have joined the IMS community reflect the cultural diversity of Hong Kong, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to watch these charmers grow and achieve their independence.
In 2002, the idea of opening a school that offered each child the opportunity to reach his or her own potential without limits, within the structure and support of the Montessori curriculum, and in a dual-language environment, was a dream. The reality is now taking place around us, and we are delighted to witness it in action. Our children are calmer at home and proud of what they are doing at school. Parents are hearing (some report for the first time) "Let me do it myself!" from our youngest children who are now excited that they know how to do it themselves – and that this is important to them. Our Primary school children are learning in a supportive environment, where they are challenged to pursue knowledge according to their interests - and to achieve astounding results.
Ten years on, the little ones who entered the school are now successfully graduating into secondary schools, and are demonstrating the difference a Montessori education makes in the development of a whole person. Our children have the wonderful Chinese levels we wanted for them, as well as the confidence and competence offered to children who pursue intellectual pursuits in context. It is so wonderful to see!
Our school community mirrors the rich cultural diversity of Hong Kong, and with over 40 different nationalities represented, IMS is truly the "United Nations" of international schools.
